Media A2 Research & Planning (6th July)

July 6th, 2009

For this task, as well as creating the teaser trailer, I need to create a film poster and film magazine cover. For the magazine, I will use what I have learnt from the creation of my school & music magazines (from AS Media). They will be similiar in that there will be a main subject or subjects on the cover which the bigger text will be about and then other features (smaller/lower profile). I will also look at film magazine covers to learn how features are presented, how much detail is on the front, etc…

For the film poster, I will look closely at film posters, research into them and save from the internet so that I am familiar with everything that is on them (conventions) and to see how to make them look good, draw in the audience, etc…Since I do not know yet what the drug type will do, I will have to develop this idea & do the research on film posters before coming up with ideas of what is going to feature on my poster

Media A2 Research & Planning (2nd July)

July 2nd, 2009

My film will be about a new drug that does something. The effects of this drug will strongly  affect characters in this film and other characters around them.

A drama film that I personally own is Mariah Carey’s “Glitter”. ”Glitter” is a romantic music drama film about an aspiring singer called Billie Frank (played by Mariah Carey) who gets a deal as a backing singer with her friends Louise (played by Da Brat) & Roxanne (played by Tia Texada) for a bad singer called Sylk (played by Padma Lakshmi) but when Timothy (played by Terrence Howard) discovers how good Billie is, he uses Billie’s vocals instead of Sylk’s and she mimes/takes credit for it. However when a popular DJ called “Dice” (played by Max Beesley) comes to see Sylk and congratulate her on the improvement in her vocals, Sylk, Billie, Louise & Roxanne are asked for a picture but Sylk says that they don’t matter. This angers Billie so she walks out singing “All My Life”, showing to “Dice” that it was her voice, not Sylk’s. Dice then goes after Billie and later gets her out the deal with Timothy by promising to pay him lots of money and they start recording together. Her 1st track “Didn’t Mean To Turn You On” is a success in the clubs and Billie/”Dice” meet with record companies, signing with a major. Billie is very successful and her  & “Dice” fall in love, but things go wrong when the record company wants things their way (wanted her to wear very little, and get rid of her friends as backing dancers, etc… in her first music video for “Loverboy”), causing complications including “Dice” not paying Timothy because of all the problems that have risen. All these situations challenge the emotions of Billie and “Dice” as they have a big argument, have threats from Timothy, don’t have the album the way they want it (the record company tells her to work with other producers), etc…And although “Glitter” is not similar to the film I will be doing, it is a drama so will have emotions of the characters challenged, from positive to negative. Also I have seen soap opera’s so I know how characters can be emotionally challenged.
