“TAXI DRIVER” CONTROVERSY

September 23rd, 2009

(NOT COMPLETE)

“Taxi Driver” is a 1976 film directed by Martin Scorsese, written by Paul Schrader and starring Robert DeNiro. The film was controversial at the time of its release due mainly to violence, blood and a young prostitute in the film.

The film caused controversy because of:

1) The amount of blood- There was so much blood in the final scene of the film that the MPAA (Motion Picture Assocation Of America) would not give the film a rating (meaning it would not be shown) unless something was done about it, so the scene was darkened so that the blood was less prominent and seemed like there was less of it. The film was then given an R (Restricted) rating (in America).

2) The character Iris (played by Jodie Foster) being a prostitute at only 12 years old. When the actress Jodie Foster was playing Iris, she was actually 13 years old but still young, with concern that she playing a prostitute and that she would be affected by the violent scene she was in. Before being cast for the role, she had physcological tests to find out if she would be emotionally scarred and she passed tests, therefore getting the role.

because it inspired someone called John Hinckley, Jr. who had watched the film many times to assassinate a president called Ronald Reagan, which also made the film controversial because if was “Taxi Driver” that inspired him to do it.

amount of blood- darken colour- ban if not- camera dwelling slowly on the vkiid/violence- weapons- glorifies violence (looks like a good thing- solves problems)

MEDIA A2 TEASER TRAILER IDEA (my original idea before joined as a group)

My film idea (to be developed):

A good student accidentally kills someone, which makes him turn evil and become addicted to murder, resulting in the once good student killing the students and teachers, in extremely violent ways.
