Representation ‘Through The Eyes Of A Killer’

May 10th, 2010

Gender: In “Through The Eyes Of  A Killer”, all the characters are male. This goes against typical horror films as they usually have male killers and female victims. This is probably due to the stereotypical views of males, which include them being strong and violent. Also females stereotypically scream when scared which is useful for most horror films due to the filmmakers wanting to show that the victims are scared, and screams are an easy way of showing fear/shock.

Age: The age of the killer is unknown and the victims are teenagers. Teenagers are stereotypically and often represented as violent/agressive rebels, but in this trailer the teenagers are helpless victims, going against how teenagers would often be shown.

Race/Ethnicity/Nationality: All the characters/cast in the trailer are caucasian/british. This is not for a reason, it was just easier to use our group to do all work for the trailer including acting for the trailer.

Socio-Economic Group: The victims are in a flat which would stereotypically say that people who work there are working class people. This is not relevant or stated in the trailer.

Sexuality: The trailer or film have nothing to do with and do not state the sexuality of any characters.

Appearance: The killer is wearing a hoodie and violent teenagers stereotypically wear hoodies so this can bring fear to some people, usually of older people. And this is why the killer is wearing a hoodie, to bring possible fear to people.

Explain how you have dealt with the issue of representation in one of your production pieces

May 7th, 2010

Representation is how people are represented and stereotypes exist to do with the following do with Ethnicity/Race/Nationality, Gender, Age, Sexuality and Class/Socio-Economic Group and they are used in media products such as TV and films for reasons including people wanting to gather a target audience. I will talk about the representation issue in my AS Music Magazine production piece, with consists of a front cover, a double page spread and a contents page.

For the magazine I was required to take original images of people with them acting as music artists opposed to just finding pictures of real music artists or unknown people that look like they could be.
